Orion Nebula (Hubble & Spitzer Telescopes) Post Cards

Photograph of the Orion Nebula This image shows stars, dust and gas inside the Orion Nebula, 1500 light years from Earth. This is a composite photo, based on ultraviolet and visible light images from the Hubble Space Telescope, and infrared views from the Spitzer Space Telescope. The result shows a swirling mass of gas and dust in shades of orange, green, blue and purple, spotted with bright stars. (The colours have been enhanced slightly here.) Omega Centauri giant star Gel Mousepad
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope snapped this panoramic view of a colorful assortment of 100,000 stars residing in the crowded core of a giant star cluster. This is one of the first images taken by the new Wide Field Camera 3 that was installed aboard Hubble in May 2009 during Servicing Mission 4, which can snap sharp images over a broad range of wavelengths.

Eagle Nebula in space Stretched Canvas Print
This eerie, dark structure in IC 4703 (the Eagle nebula) is a column of cool molecular hydrogen gas and dust that is an incubator for new stars. The stars are embedded inside finger-like protrusions clearly seen extending from the top of the column. Each "fingertip" is somewhat larger than our own solar system. The pillar is slowly eroding away by the ultraviolet light from nearby hot stars, a process called "photoevaporation". As it does, small globules of especially dense gas buried within the cloud are uncovered. These globules have been dubbed "EGGs" ; an acronym for "Evaporating Gaseous Globules". The shadows of the EGGs protect gas behind them, resulting in the finger-like structures at the top of the cloud.
