RMS Titanic. White Star Line Ships. RMS Titanic was a passenger line that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, UK to New York City, US. 1,514 People were killed, and is one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. She was the largest ship afloat, one of three Olympic class ocean liners operated by White Star Line. She carried 2,223 people. She carried only enough lifeboats for 1,178 people, slightly more than half of the number travelling and one-third of her total passenger and crew capacity. She left Southampton on 10 April 1912 at Cherbourg in France and Queenstown Ireland, after 4 days and 375 miles she hit an iceberg at 11:40, the rest is history. She currently rests on the seabed at a depth of 12,415 feet.
