Both the leek and the daffodil have come to symbolise Wales. The leek's use as a Welsh emblem dates back centuries. In Shakespeare's Henry V, the Bard called the wearing of the leek an “ancient tradition”. The daffodil was adopted as an alternative emblem more recently; it was said to have been used by David Lloyd George in ceremonies marking the investiture of the Prince of Wales at Caernarfon in 1911.
