Leek and Daffodil Mug

Both the leek and the daffodil have come to symbolise Wales. The leek's use as a Welsh emblem dates back centuries. In Shakespeare's Henry V, the Bard called the wearing of the leek an “ancient tradition”. The daffodil was adopted as an alternative emblem more recently; it was said to have been used by David Lloyd George in ceremonies marking the investiture of the Prince of Wales at Caernarfon in 1911. The daffodil has been adopted as the national flower of Wales. Leek and daffodil appear together in this original design by Richard H. Fay.
